Pagellus bogaraveo
The blackmouth is a fish with a robust, laterally compressed body, a large head and a mouth with strong, sharp teeth. Its coloration varies from dark gray to reddish brown, with a black spot at the base of the pectoral fin. It can reach a length of up to 70 cm and a weight of 3 kg.
The blackmouth is a demersal fish that inhabits rocky and sandy bottoms, as well as Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds. It is commonly found in shallow waters, from the coast up to 50 meters deep.
